Privacy Policy

What we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have.

Last updated: 28 September 2026

At a glance

A short summary. The full policy follows below.

What we collect

Your contact details, your BVN when you verify your identity, the meter, smartcard and phone numbers you pay for, and your transaction history.

Why we use it

To run your wallet, deliver what you paid for, send receipts and alerts, prevent fraud and help you when something goes wrong.

Who we share it with

Only the partners needed to complete your payment or message you, and authorities when the law requires it. We never sell your information.

Your choices

You can see, correct or delete your information, and close your account, at any time by contacting us.

1. Who we are

UtilityWallet.ng ("UtilityWallet", "we", "us") is a bill payment service owned and operated by Apps Logic and Webs, a business based in Nigeria. This policy covers the website www.utilitywallet.ng, the UtilityWallet mobile app, and our WhatsApp and email support channels.

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, Apps Logic and Webs is the data controller of the personal information described here.

2. Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Account details: your first and last name, email address, phone number and password. Passwords are stored in a scrambled (hashed) form that we cannot read.
  • Identity verification: your Bank Verification Number (BVN), together with the name and date of birth you enter so that we can confirm they match. This is needed before we can give you a dedicated bank account number for funding your wallet by transfer.
  • Bill details: the meter numbers, smartcard or IUC numbers, and phone numbers you make payments for.
  • Support messages: the messages, payment receipts, screenshots and documents you send us on WhatsApp, in chat or by email, and any reviews you submit.

Information created when you use UtilityWallet

  • Your wallet balance and your dedicated account number.
  • Your transaction history: the service, amount, date, payment method, status, and any electricity token issued.
  • The notifications and receipts we have sent you.

Information collected automatically

  • Your IP address, including the one used when you signed up.
  • Your browser and device type, and the pages you visit on our website.
  • A device identifier that we store in a cookie on your browser.
  • A push notification token, if you turn on notifications.

Information we receive from others

  • The result of your BVN check from our verification partner.
  • Payment confirmations from payment processors and banks, including the amount, the reference, and the name on the account that paid.
  • The customer name and address linked to a meter or smartcard, from the utility provider.

What we do not collect

  • Your card number, CVV or card PIN. You enter these on our payment partner's secure checkout, not on our systems.
  • Your fingerprint or face data. Biometric checks happen on your own phone, and the app is only told whether the check passed.
  • Your contacts, location, photos, camera or microphone. The mobile app does not ask for access to any of them.

3. How we use your information

  • To create and manage your account and wallet.
  • To process your payments and deliver what you bought.
  • To verify your identity and to detect and prevent fraud and misuse.
  • To send you receipts, transaction alerts, one-time codes and security notices.
  • To answer your questions, trace payments and resolve disputes and refunds.
  • To understand how our website and adverts perform, so that we can improve them.
  • To meet our legal and regulatory obligations.

Our legal grounds

We use your information because it is needed to provide the service you asked for, because the law requires it, because we have a legitimate interest in keeping the service safe and working well, or because you have given us your consent.

4. Who we share your information with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the partners below, and only what each one needs for its task.

Payment processors and banks

Flutterwave, Providus Bank, Monnify

To process card payments and bank transfers, to give you a dedicated account number for funding your wallet, and to verify your BVN.

Bill payment and utility providers

VTpass, electricity distribution companies, cable TV and mobile network operators

To deliver your electricity token, subscription, airtime or data. They receive the meter, smartcard or phone number and the amount.

Messaging providers

WhatsApp Business Platform (Meta), SendGrid, SMS gateways, Google Firebase, Expo

To send you receipts, alerts, one-time codes and support replies by email, SMS, WhatsApp and push notification.

Automated support

OpenAI

To read the support messages and payment receipts you send us, so that we can find your transaction and reply quickly.

Analytics and advertising

Google Analytics, Google Ads, Vercel Analytics

To understand how the website is used and whether our adverts work. These reports do not include your name, BVN or payment details.

Hosting and storage

Vercel and our cloud database provider

To run the website and app, and to store your account and transaction records securely.

Legal and safety reasons

We may disclose information to regulators, courts or law enforcement agencies when the law requires it, and when it is needed to investigate fraud or protect our customers. If the business is ever merged or sold, your information may pass to the new owner under the terms of this policy.

5. WhatsApp and automated support

When you message us on WhatsApp, your phone number, WhatsApp profile name and messages reach us through the WhatsApp Business Platform, which is provided by Meta. We use your WhatsApp number to find your UtilityWallet account so that we can help you without asking you to repeat your details.

Replies may come from an automated assistant or from a member of our team. The assistant uses an artificial intelligence provider to read your message and any receipt you send, in order to find your transaction and answer you. Issues it cannot resolve are passed to a member of our team.

Please do not send your password, card PIN or one-time codes in a chat. We will never ask for them.

6. Cookies and analytics

Our website stores small files called cookies on your browser. We use them for:

  • Keeping the site working: keeping you signed in and recognising your device. The device identifier lasts up to 2 years.
  • Saving you time: remembering the email, phone, meter and smartcard numbers you last used, and the customer name on them, so that you do not have to type them again. These last up to 90 days.
  • Measuring: Google Analytics, Google Ads and Vercel Analytics tell us how the site is used and whether our adverts work.

You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings. If you block them, some parts of the site may not work, and you will need to re-enter your details each time.

7. Where your information is stored

Some of our partners store and process information on servers outside Nigeria. When your information is transferred abroad, we rely on the safeguards permitted by the Nigeria Data Protection Act, and we share only what the partner needs for its task.

8. How long we keep it

  • Account details: for as long as your account is open.
  • Transaction, payment and identity verification records: for as long as Nigerian financial, tax and anti-fraud laws require, even after your account is closed.
  • Support conversations: for as long as needed to resolve your issue and keep a record of how it was resolved.
  • Cookies: up to 90 days for saved details, and up to 2 years for the device identifier.

9. How we protect it

  • Information is encrypted while it travels between your device and our servers.
  • Passwords are stored in a hashed form that cannot be read.
  • Access to customer records is limited to the people who need it to do their work.
  • The mobile app supports biometric confirmation on devices that have it.

No system can be made completely secure. If a breach affects your information, we will notify you and the regulator as the law requires. You can help by keeping your password private and telling us at once if you notice activity you do not recognise.

10. Your rights

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, you have the right to:

See your information

Ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you.

Correct it

Ask us to fix anything that is wrong or out of date.

Delete it

Ask us to delete your account and personal information.

Limit or object

Ask us to stop or limit a particular use, such as marketing messages.

Take it with you

Ask for your information in a format you can move to another service.

Withdraw consent

To use any of these rights, email support@utilitywallet.ng. We may ask you to confirm your identity first. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission at ndpc.gov.ng.

11. Deleting your account and data

You can ask us to delete your account and personal information at any time.

  1. 1Email support@utilitywallet.ng from the email address on your account, with the subject "Delete my account". You can also message us on WhatsApp from the phone number on your account.
  2. 2We confirm that the request comes from you.
  3. 3If you have money in your wallet, use it before you ask, or tell us in your request so that we can explain your options.
  4. 4We delete your information within 30 days and email you to confirm.

What is deleted

Your profile and sign-in details, saved meter and smartcard numbers, notification tokens, and your support conversations.

What we must keep

12. Children

UtilityWallet is meant for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our service or the law changes. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated. If a change is significant, we will tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect.

This policy should be read together with our Terms and Conditions.
